The standard base is used with the 18 inch Spin-N-Serves. The expansion base is used when adding the optional expansion ring to the 18 inch Spin-N-Serve - which yields a 24" diameter surface.
The standard base is included with an 18” order, and the expansion base is included with a ring order. No need to actually order a base.
